In its drive towards a sustainable livehood for farmers, SPPD particularly values the partnership it has with:
AMEF - Agriculture, Man and Ecology Foundation
AMEF is providing SPPD with technical and financial assistance in Sustainable Agriculture, mainly in the area of dry land farming. It teaches soil enrichment methods from seed to seed. The dry land techniques relate to sustainable crop production – rice, maize, ground nut, kitchen garden vegetables, and intercropping to help nourish the soil. The farmers are learning dry land techniques through FFSs (Farmer’s Field School) conducted by SPPD.
IGSSS - Indo Global Social Services Society
The financial support for sustainable livelihood provided by IGSSS is primarily in the area of livestock and fodder plots in dry land farming.
IGSSS finances:
- fodder plots in the villages
- SPPD’s tool lending centre
- seed or seedling provision for fodder products
- field trips within Tamil Nadu to expose farmers to different livestock methods
SPPD looks forward to continued successful partnership with IGSSS and AMEF
SPPD also supports a federation of Farmer’s Clubs in six villages to share knowledge and experience. Through the Farmer’s Clubs links are set up between farmers and NABARD (National Agriculture Bank for Rural Development) to provide access to training programmes and small loans.
