Who We Are
We work among the poor. Our target group includes orphaned and underprivileged children, children with HIV, single women, and resource-poor farmers. We help small and marginal farmers of rain-fed lands to ensure their rights and livelihoods.
At times of disasters, we are involved in the distribution of disaster relief materials and undertake rehabilitation measures. We also train disaster victims in disaster preparedness.
SPPD envisions a secure and sustainable community with a special focus on empowering vulnerable groups through 5 broad thematic areas. Our first thematic area is Education and Skill Development. It focuses on providing access to education to children and demand-driven vocational skill training to youth. We also align with STEM education promotion and student financial assistance initiatives. Similarly, SPPD gives top priority to health, which is central to human well-being. This would solve many of the socio-economic issues faced by the rural population.
We train resource-poor farmers in sustainable agriculture. We demonstrate dry land farming techniques in a semi-arid region. For this, we have established a model farm cum-training centre at Musiri. Another major initiative by SPPD on organic farming practices is the propagation of preserved green fodder. We implement this among the farmers of these drought-prone districts, advancing local food sustainability.
Disaster relief, rehabilitation, and more importantly, Disaster Preparedness training form a part of the interventions of SPPD. These efforts strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities.
SPPD has an impeccable track record of executing several projects.
