The most fortunate children who could avail the golden Nutrition Kits!
Team SPPD Nov 24, 2022
The reporting period of
around six months, since the month of January to June 2022 was full of happy
movements for the team members of SPPD. The nutrition kits sponsored by the
kind hearted donors of Give India were being distributed to around 1344 children
every month.
Apart from fulfilling the
nutritional needs, some of the components of the nutrition kits, such as the
date fruits and nutritional mix went a long way in satisfying the craving of
children for sweets as well.
The distribution of the
nutrition kits took place in the venues at the centralized locations of the
respective regions of the villages of Musiri block, Tiruchirappalli city, and
Pudukkottai district.
Prior to the distribution
of the nutrition kits the dates of the distribution and its venue were
intimated in advance to the families of the children by telephone calls.
As many as 970 Children
belonging to the villages in the radius of 50 kilo meters received the
nutrition kits in and around Musiri block in the SPPD campus. Similarly, 144 of
children of Tiruchirappalli city corporation limit and a total of 230 children of
Keeranur block of Pudukkottai district during the reporting period in the venues
easily accessible and centralized spots of the respective localities.
Every month post distribution
of the nutrition kits, the SPPD team members made visits to every beneficiary
children’s homes to get to know how the nutrition kits were utilized and its
benefits to the children. Similarly, visits were made to the schools to ensure
attendance of the children.
As the reporting period
happened to be the post covid time and the communities were just struggling to
come out of the severe impacts of the pandemic. The long-time closure of
schools due to pandemic had made some of the parents hesitant to send their
children back to school.
SPPD took maximum care to
ensure the children to continue their schooling after the long gap caused by
the pandemic making use of the distribution of nutrition kits. This is because
children got enormously benefited from the nutrition kits.
Continuous monitoring and
counseling of the parents and children who were reluctant to send back their
children were carried out by our team members to prevent any drop out of them
from the school.
The evils of child labor
and child marriage were looming large. And a small number of the parents had
resorted to the same in the region in the face of severe loss of livelihood
during the pandemic period. They could be convinced easily to continue with
their studies.
The girl children were vulnerable
to child marriage and both boys and girls to child labor. Thus during the peak
of pandemic time, the risk of children becoming victims of these evils proved
to be the challenges in carrying forward the will and the objective to keep the
children healthy and happy. This spirit was needed to be continued.
And distribution of
nutrition kits proved to be bargaining tools in our efforts towards preventing
the parents of children from the inclination towards pushing the children in to
child labor and child marriage.
Thus, our ensuring all
the nutrition kit recipient children to get back to their schools in itself is
a big achievement and milestone. Similarly preventing a good number of them
from falling in to the evils of child labor and child marriage could be termed
an achievement both pre and post covid period that falls in the reporting
period. For all these good things the donors of the nutrition kits and Give
India need to be thanked.
The goal of SPPD for the coming 6 months period is to see all these 1344 children continue their studies without any break. And keeping them physically and mentally healthy is our aim.
